Heather Huhtanen has been working to advance gender equality in the context of development, governance and security and justice reform for almost twenty years. Most recently she served as a Program Manager for the Gender and Security Division of DCAF where she developed knowledge and expertise on gender bias.
Prior to joining DCAF, Huhtanen was a Gender & Human Rights Advisor with the US Department of State Police Development Program in Iraq. She also undertook a 6-month consultancy with the UN Police Division to develop a 10-day training curriculum for UN Police. Before moving abroad, Heather worked on gender equality and criminal justice reform in the U.S. where she developed expertise in training development and delivery.
Huhtanen has an MA in Development with a specialization in women and gender (Institute of Social Studies, The Hague). She is currently an independent consultant based in Geneva.
